In 2013, Jessica went grocery shopping in her hometown of Guthrie, Oklahoma. That’s when the mother of four and leader of the Christian outreach team at the First Christian Church noticed her wallet was gone.

Jessica had just seen a man standing closely behind her in the store, and knew it was him who had stolen the wallet, which held $27 in cash.

Instead of rushing to call the cops, Jessica remained calm. And instead of frantically running to tell an employee, Jessica approached the thief and found herself face-to-face with the man who stole her money.

“I’m gonna give you a choice,” she told him. “You can either give me my wallet and I’ll forgive you right now, and I’ll even take you to the front and pay for your groceries.” The other option was calling the police.

What happened next went viral, leaving readers all over the country completely stunned by Jessica’s actions that fateful day.

In 2013, a mother of four from Oklahoma made headlines for the most incredible reason. Jessica Eaves was out grocery shopping when she noticed a man following behind her.

When she realized her wallet was gone, she knew immediately it was the man who stole it.

That’s when Jessica made the bold decision to approach the stranger in a crowded aisle and present him with an important choice.

“You can either give me my wallet and I’ll forgive you right now, and I’ll even take you to the front and pay for your groceries,” she told him.

If the thief refused this option, then Jessica would call the cops.

It was in these moments that Jessica was reminded of a Bible scripture from Luke:

“To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either.”

The man promptly reached into his sweatshirt pocket and handed Jessica her wallet.

As he and Jessica made their way to the front of the store so she could pay for his items, the man started to cry.

He apologized over and over again, telling Jessica how desperate he was. Jessica ended up spending $27 on the man’s groceries, which included milk, bread, crackers, and cheese.

“The last thing he said was, ‘I’ll never forget tonight. I’m broke, I have kids, I’m embarrassed and I’m sorry.’”

Jessica, who is the leader of the Christian outreach team at the First Christian Church, identified with the man as a fellow parent.

“I never carry cash,” she told the Christian Post. “When I got to the check-out counter that day his total was just a little over $27 and I had $28 in cash in my wallet.

And so I knew in that moment it wasn’t me. It was Christ that played in that moment.”

Jessica’s kindness in the face of distress is truly something to be admired. If you agree, please SHARE this story with your friends on Facebook.
